THE BIRTHDAY EDITIONOCTOBER 2026
GOOD ISSUE.

SAM

AT 30

For the person who always takes the scenic route.

One rainy Sunday. Very good company. A story worth keeping.

NOT A LIMITED EDITION.
THE ONLY EDITION.
A LETTER TO BEGIN

A note before you begin.

Dear Sam,

This is a small magazine about the things that make you, you. Not your greatest achievements or a perfectly edited life. The ordinary things we would recognise anywhere. The long way home. The emergency biscuits. The question that makes a quiet person feel included. We gathered a few memories, asked a few questions and left room for the stories we have not made yet. There is no order in which you need to become somebody else. We are very glad to know the person on these pages. Happy birthday. Turn the page when you are ready.

With love, your people

ONE DAY, REMEMBERED

The picnic that moved indoors.

We had packed enough sandwiches for a small expedition. Then it rained. Properly. You spread the picnic blanket across the kitchen floor, found the good mugs and announced that the view was excellent. We spent the afternoon eating strawberries and naming the clouds we could not see. I still think about that when a plan goes wrong. You were not waiting for a better day. You made something of the one we had.

THREE QUESTIONS / NO RIGHT ANSWERS

Right now, in your words.

01What small thing are you looking forward to?
The first Saturday with no alarm. A long breakfast, the market and absolutely no plan for the afternoon.
02What have you changed your mind about?
I used to think a good trip needed a full itinerary. Now I leave an afternoon empty and see where it goes.
03What would you like more of this year?
Making things badly before I learn to make them well. More drawings. More people around the kitchen table.
SMALL THINGS, ALL YOURS

A very particular collection.

  1. 01

    The chipped blue mug

It holds exactly the right amount of tea. The other mugs know they are understudies.

  2. 02

    The long way home

Past the little garden, even when nothing is flowering. There is usually a cat to greet.

  3. 03

    A borrowed book

Especially with a note on the first page telling you why someone thought you would like it.

  4. 04

    The last slice

Saved for whoever arrives late. This is less a food preference and more a way of being.

A MOMENT IN THE MIDDLE

Outside the frame.

Your photograph
A picture with a story behind it.
Add a photograph you have permission to use. Name the people and place only if they are comfortable being included.

A caption can say more than who stood where. What happened just before the shutter? What is the person outside the frame laughing about? One remembered detail will give the picture somewhere to live.

A FEW WORDS FROM YOUR PEOPLE

For the year ahead.

May your plans leave room for a good surprise.

Alex

May you find the time to make the thing you keep talking about.

Jo

May there always be someone ready to take the long way home with you.

Morgan
THE LAST PAGE, FOR NOW

Keep this one.

For the stories we tell again. For the ordinary days worth remembering. For you.
